Under a vintage sky

I am very lucky to be part of several groups on Facebook, including Plus size chats, Bloggers Groups, and one of the first was called the 40’s and 50’s Most Marvellous Meet ups.

This group is full of wonderful Vintage minded ladies and gentleman who meet up to share their love of bygones eras. The group also has a very lively board with spin offs, including items for sale and a craft/making/sewing page.

I have come to know quite a few lovely people on there and was very privileged to meet some of them at a recent Winter ball – see here for my review of my amazing night out up North.

Another of the lovely bunch in the group is a wonderful Man called Kieron Finn.

kieron

Kieron is a very dapper individual, with a love of the era and the styles and dances. He is also very handy when it comes to arts and crafts.

I first saw some of Kieron’s work on the group, when he posted about a couple of glass engravings that he had done.

etch1

These engravings are like a “negative” image. A portrait of someone is etched out, and when a candle or light is placed in front of it against a plain wall, the resulting shadow is displayed.

Kieron showed us some of the most recent etchings he had done, including Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, David Bowie and even R2D2!

Now, as Christmas was coming up, I contacted Kieron and asked him if he took commissions.

I couldn’t have been happier when he said he did!

etch5

The whole process was easy. I sent Kieron a couple of images of the person I would like to have etched, in this case my late Father In Law, Jock and he told me he would see what he could do.

Around a week later, he made contact with me and showed me just what he had accomplished. I was over the moon. It was so beautiful, and looked just like Dad.

On giving it to my Mum in Law on Christmas Day, she didn’t even need to have it lit up to recognise that it was her “Jock” although when we lit it up, you could see the shadow picture so much better.

etch4

It really was a lovely picture, and we were all over the moon with it.

I contacted Kieron again last week. It will soon be a year since my own Father passed away on the 4th February. So I thought it would be quite lovely, and apt to get another etching done, this time for my Mum (She doesn’t tend to read my blog, so hopefully she won’t see this and I spoil the surprise!)

Again, I duly sent 3 or 4 pictures off, and Kieron worked his wonders again. The resulting picture look so much like Dad, that I could hardly believe it was an etching.

Kieron really is great at what he does, which is not just limited to glass etching. He does some beautiful Lino prints and has his own blog, with some beautiful poetry on it. He truly is a modern day renaissance man – art, poetry, etching, and dancing.

If you are looking for a special memento, or keepsake for someone – don’t forget, Valentines Day AND Mothers Day are closer than you think, why not drop Kieron a line.

Also, if you love a bit of poetry, beautiful photographs and some wonderfully poignant, thought provoking words, I heartily suggest you check out his blog over at Under a Vintage Sky

He is available for commissions and his etchings are cheap at half the price! Kieron can be contacted here – Email Here

Have you purchased any of his work? Are you considering a commission? I would love to hear about what you want to have etched.

Till next time,
Tx
