A few weeks back I was lucky enough to attend the LondonEdge trade show at Olympia. This was the first time I had ever been, and you can read all about my adventures here – That’s Ms Goddess to you
Whilst I was there, I spent a lot of time admiring (and drooling) over the beautiful collection from Dolly and Dotty. They have so many wonderful dresses, most of them available in several colours or fabrics, and have a great size range from 6-24.
Whilst the dresses start at the amazing price of £29.99, this does not mean they scrimp on the design OR quality. The fabrics are substantial, with a lot of design techniques used on them, and they really are so very pretty.
The lovely Katie stood chatting with us for quite a while, and offered to send me something to review. All I had to do was have a look over the website and send a few choices (to allow for stock and size options). There were so many things to choose from, that it took me a little while to come up with my choices, but eventually I narrowed it down to 5 or 6 options.
I duly sent them off to Katie, and a couple of days later, a package arrived at my door. Not knowing what was going to be inside, I was thrilled and delighted to have been sent the Wendy swing dress.
This particular dress actually comes in 15 different colours, however I had asked for the lovely sunshine yellow polka dot. I felt this was a great spring time dress, which brought up visions of picnics and days out. Certainly a change from these grey days were are currently experiencing.
On taking the dress out of its packaging, I could tell that it was a very well made dress. The cotton material is quite heavyweight, with some thickness to it. The dress itself has a beautiful gathered section at the top of each shoulder. This ruching definitely helps with the fit of the V – shaped bodice.
The bodice itself is finished off with a concealed zip and a hook and eye to the back. A matching polka dot belt, with a buckle gave the whole dress a smart and vibrant look.
Trying the dress on, I couldn’t believe the quality of the design and fit. This dress retails at only £29.99, and is an absolutely bargain for the price. As previously mentioned, you can get this dress in 14 other colours, from burgundy to peach to aqua and so much more!
I tried the dress on, and was absolutely delighted with the fit and shape. I put a cream lindybop petticoat on underneath and accessorised it with a lovely yellow orchid. It was spot on, worn with little white lacy ballet flats. I also paired it up with an original 50’s handbag, made of white beads. A perfect match to the polkadot dress.
The only thing missing was the sun!
I dragged the husband down to the local park for some photos, hoping that the sun might come out to complete the look. But sadly it was not to be! However, the sunny yellow material really brightened up what was an overcast day.
I then decided to wear it out on Mothers Day as a perfect outfit for a day out. We went down to Winchester to take Little Chick back to University, and stopped off for lunch at Cote Brasserie in Chichester.
It was a perfect day, spent with family and friends, and the dress really stood out. It was comfortable to wear on the 5 hour round trip. It creased a little where I was sitting down on it, but overall looked as fresh as when I had first put it on. I really was impressed with its durability.
If you are looking for something a little different in the vintage dress market, Dolly and Dotty are certainly a great place to start. Their range of dresses are outstanding, and with each dress being available in at least several colours and patterns, there is something for everyone.
The pricing structure is very affordable, personally based on the dress I was sent, I think it is a little underpriced! For the quality of the dress I would be more than happy to pay up to around £50.
If you love a great design, with fantastic quality yet at a bargain price, you really won’t find better than Dolly and Dotty! I have already added several dresses to my wishlist, so look for more from them soon.
