Freedom of Figure is Fabulous!

A few weeks ago I was surprised and pleased to be contacted by the lovely Kira Graham. She is one of the owners of the Freedom of Figure website which looks at plus size clothing in a totally different way.

What do I mean by that?

Well their ethos is based on doing away with sized clothes, and having free sizes for all. Their website couldn’t say it any better than this –

“We are Freedom of Figure… we want a freesize, fashion revolution…. and we want YOU to be a part of it!

We’ve had freedom of speech for some time now…don’t you think it’s time we had freedom of figure?”

Of course I was intrigued by this premise. How on earth can you have the same item worn by numerous different sizes? Surely the fit would be all wrong?

Looking at the clothing on the website, they have taken each garment and shown it worn on 3 different size models. From small to large. They also give advice as to what the upper size limit for each garment (to get the best look) is.

Now, looking at the clothing, it was quite clear that it isn’t the vintage style of dress that I am normally seen to inhabit. In fact, it is nothing like I would ever wear.

However, I really like the whole reasoning behind their website, so as Kira had offered to send me something to try, I thought I would try and vintage it up!

The items that arrived were this lovely nautical stripe jumpsuit, and to top off the outfit, a lovely metal heart shaped necklace. Navy and White horizontal stripes, with thin straps and harem style trousers. Perfect for the summer, cool and easy wearing. And so not me!

£18.95

The jumpsuit comes in 3 colours, navy, khaki and grey and at only £18.95, a total bargain. Now as someone who wears a 24/26 dress, I was a little unsure as to how this would fit me.

I literally had nothing to worry about! It was a lovely comfortable fit, and very cool. Perfect for summer, or a lovely holiday abroad.

This item could also be worn as a comfortable outfit on a day out, or covering up a swimsuit or fancied up and worn to go out at night. All fantastic options, especially if going on holiday and space is of an essence.

As for me… How exactly could I vintage this look up?

I thought I would try and come up with four different looks for this item. One, a throwback to the 2o’s  – almost like a vintage ladies bathing suit. Pairing it up with a red turban, knotted pearls, red shoes and belt, I felt like I had managed to create a vintage look, although not one I would normally wear. Surprisingly I really loved it!

My second look involved a big white floppy sunhat, a red knotted scarf and red and white wedges.

This was more a 70’s homage. A vintage style wicker bag completed the ensemble. The sunhat would be perfect for those hot days at the beach, and cover up my shoulders a little. The bag perfect for sun cream, a book, ipod and sunglasses.

My third look was definitely more me. A vintage flower with Cherries, a navy clutch bag and little pointed navy kitten heels completed the outfit and white pearl necklace with a cherry pendant topped it all off.

For my last look, I decided to step away from the vintage styling. I wanted to create a look that was based on going out for an evening. The beautiful Louisa heart necklace was also gifted to me, and was just what I needed to finish off the look. A simple comb in my hair to pull it back, and a gorgeous pair of high heels had me feeling like I was ready to go out for dinner or drinks in a posh bar.  I decided to forgo wearing a belt with this look, as I wanted it to flow more and look almost as if it was a dress.

All in all, I actually really enjoyed styling this piece of clothing up. Whilst it isn’t my normal look, I am going abroad this summer, and petticoats and swing dresses really won’t be of much help in Greece, well apart from the odd night out. This jumpsuit, however is the perfect choice, and will allow me to stay slightly vintage whilst cool and looking good!

Freedom of Figure have a wide array of items on their site from clothing to some amazing theatrical looking necklaces, and the price points are spot on. Bags, sunglasses and scarves all grace their pages, and I have to say there are some pretty gorgeous things on there!

Before diving in and looking at all their beautiful items, go have a read about their ethos here and see what it is all about!

What do you think to how I have styled these 4 looks up? Did I stray too far from my vintage “roots” or did I hit the nail on the head?

Till next time
Tx
