As you know I was due to be going to the British Plus Size Awards in London a few weeks back and wanted to look my best.
I had managed to get a hair appointment with the amazing Lucie Luella who had transformed my locks in a hair makeover (see post here) and she was touching up my roots as well as giving me a vintage hairstyle. This was due to happen on the Saturday morning.
I could not believe how fortuitous I had been. When looking on Google Maps for the location of “Hula” I was amazed to find it was actually a five minute walk from my hotel. It certainly cut off a lot of travel time and meant I had more time for frivolity and enjoying the weekend away.
I arrived at Hula around 1020am for my 1030 appointment and Lucie was just arriving too. Now most of you will know, the awards got cancelled at the last minute, but as my roots needed doing, I still went ahead with all my pampering appointments.
I told Lucie what had happened and she was absolutely stunned. She couldn’t believe just what had gone on, and promised to pamper me and make me look gorgeous even though I didn’t have a ceremony to go to.
George, the owner of Hula arrived and ushered us into the most amazing salon; flamingoes, vintage patterns, tiki prints, peacock chairs, you name it I was in vintage heaven!
George herself was wearing a stunning black halterneck wiggle dress, and paired with her scarlet hair looked divine.
My eyes were drawn to all the little vintage touches in the salon. Flyers advertising the shop, flowers above a huge mirror, an original dressing table, vases and decor. It really was a stunning location.
Chatting with George, I found out the salon offers so much more than hair and nails; waxing and eyebrows and even pedicures. I wanted to try it all!
Lucie settled me in my chair and within five minutes I had bleach on my head getting my roots done. Sitting relaxing in the salon my eyes were drawn to all the quirky decorations. The place was soon to be even more decorated with the arrival of a lovely vintage lady blogger I knew, Cheereka Mariam of Papowandflo came into the salon for a Midi Cut.
I had met Cheereka a few months back at a Vintage event and it was lovely to chat and get to know her even better. The morning just got better and better as Carrie-Ann and Holly who I all knew from several vintage events including Twinwood arrived at the salon too!
We all chatted and laughed the morning away, whilst Cheereka had her hair cut and styled before it was time for my hair to be washed off and styled.
Holly wanted to get her hair cut and styled by Lucie Luella too, and we all just happened to have chosen the same day. How lucky was that?
I had totally left my style down to Lucie Luella. She knew what my gown and hair flower looked like and so I trusted her to beautify me.
I was not disappointed.
She curled my hair, then brushed it out, smoothing each section before backcombing a high swooping fringe. The end result was just stunning. I was so happy I could have cried.
Unfortunately I had another appointment (for my make-up) directly after so I couldn’t stay and socialise longer, and had to hurry off.
Thankfully I met up with the ladies (and a couple of others) a little later for a spot of lunch at Poppys, which was opposite Spitalfields (where I was having my makeover)
I finally got to see the finished haircut that Holly had – and she looked Amazing!!!
My visit to Hula was fabulous; vintage, girlie, fabulously glamorous and just what I needed.
You can bet I will be going back soon!
