Eurotastic!

Love it or Hate it, the Eurovision Song Contest is a television stalwart, and one we have been watching in our household for many years.

Back in the 90’s with the  overly camp pop tracks and Terry Wogan making funny yet sarcastic comments about all the acts, we just loved watching it.  As years went by and you could print off your own scorecards to join in, we did that too.

As the children got older, they joined it, and we made quite an event of it; going shopping for food from around Europe and having a little party of it.

This year, my blogger bestie Boo was invited up for the weekend. She loves a bit of Eurovision and wanted to come to the party.

Blogger Babes

Baby Bear did NOT want to stay home for a party and made contact with her mates to see if they wanted to go out for the night. They didn’t want to go out so my husband told them to come to the party!

They all thought it was a fantastic idea and said they would all come

I took a couple of hours off work and went to get the food for the evening. Well, just what can you buy for a Euro themed party? More like what CAN’T you buy?

French Pate, German salami, Danish pastry, Green Olives, Turkish kofte, Swedish meatballs, Swiss chocolate, dutch cheese (and French, English, Spanish) Italian pizza and pasta. Spanish Chorizo and German Frickadellen…. the list is endless!

Continental buffet

Oh and of course Profiteroles, Belgian Chocolates and good old Haribo.

Boo met me to go shopping for the food and we arrived home with  bulging shopping bags and started cooking and laying out the buffet before the show started. I had printed off the score sheets for everyone, and we were all set.

Food from around Europe

Now in our exuberance we decided to play along with the famous Eurovision drinking game. There are various rules, of which you must take a sip of your drink when something specific happens, such as a contestant wearing white, a “reach for the stars” arm movement, or when the UK are awarded points.

Everything from Mini Chicken Kievs to Frikadellen

We had several hilarious hours picking apart the acts, and scoring our favourites.

Little Chick was also doing the same in Winchester with her Uni mates and we planned to exchange our points at the end of the night.

The scores on the Doors

I am glad to say that a great night was had by all. The party didn’t finish till nearly 6am and the food and drink had flowed all night.

Of course Sunday was the mammoth task of tidying a house that looked like a tornado had swept through it.

I am already starting to plan next years party…. Eurovision 2018 anyone??

Till next time
