Jeepers, Creepers, Where did you get those Retropeepers???

A couple of weeks ago I had a lovely random message in my Instagram Inbox.

Now, for you Instagrammers out there, you will know that normally any random Instagram message usually involves photographs of male anatomy. Not nice in any way, shape or form!

This one however was fabulous and came from the desk of Caroline over at Retropeepers. A UK based vintage glasses/sunglasses site that she runs with her partner Lauretta.

She very kindly offered to send me some spectacles to review if I was interested.

Was I interested??? Of Course!

Now, people who know me personally know I am as blind as a bat. Totally short sighted. I mean to the point that If I didn’t have my contact lenses in, Tom Hardy and Idris Elba could run around naked in front of me and I wouldn’t have a clue!

The Celebrity Man of my Dreams

Literally, If I don’t have the optical help, anything more than an arms length in front of me is just a blurry shape with no definition. I hate it.

I have worn contact lenses for around 20 years. I started with the hard lenses, protein tablets, potions and bottles cluttering up the bathroom. Then as they got better I moved to soft lenses, then disposable ones and now I wear lenses that stay in for up to 30 days.

That’s right. I put in a pair on day one and wear them solidly. I sleep, bathe, eat, work, and play in them. And then they get thrown away and another pair put in.

I very very rarely wear my glasses for a couple of reasons.

1) Mine are all a bit modern, and even the ones I chose that I thought had a vintage look, really aren’t “that” vintage.

2) When the contacts go in, it’s easier to keep them in for the 30 days – no messing about.

3) From a vanity point of view, my glasses just don’t look that great on me, in my opinion.

Some designer glasses I didn’t like very much!

The first reason really was the main one. I just hadn’t found some specs that really suited my vintage look and I had pretty much given up trying AND looking. I had seen some online, but there was always that worry that I would purchase some expensive glasses online, and then when I tried them on, I looked awful.

My most current Glasses

This issue was totally taken away from me with Retropeepers. Caroline was so very helpful and pointed me in the direction of some shapes that she believed would suit my style and face. She even went as far to as to recommend colours that would compliment my complexion and hair colour!

She suggested that I took a look at Gidget, Betty, Peggy and for something with a little “Bling” the Aurora.

I had a look and to my surprise found the perfect pair, the Betty.

How did I know they were the perfect pair? Well I already owned a pair of sunglasses with the same frame! Which I think look fantastic on, so It was a no-brainer really.

My “Betty” Sunglasses

I emailed Caroline back and told her I had decided on the perfect pair. We discussed colour again, I was torn between grey, green and tortoiseshell.

I eventually went for a green pair thinking that the grey would blend in to much with my hair, and tortoiseshell was the same as the sunglasses.

I had a copy of my prescription which Caroline asked me to email her and then she asked for one other thing. She needed to know my Pupillary distance in order to get the glasses perfect for me.

This was as easy as measuring from the centre of one pupil to the other with a ruler. 61mm was my distance. Again I emailed this information across. Super simple really.

And then I just had to be patient and wait for the arrival.

Less than a week later a package arrived on my door. I was super excited to try my new glasses on, especially as I had also cut my hair into a more radical vintage style.

So, how did I get on?

Once I opened the package, I found a  Retropeepers glass cleaning cloth to keep the lenses crystal clear, and then securely wrapped up in a soft glasses case and bubble wrap, were the glasses. I opened them with the eagerness of a child at Christmas.

Stunning Spectacles

I immediately had to wear them. I took out my contact lenses on Monday evening. It is now late on Tuesday night, over a week later and I am still wearing them!

I literally have had so many compliments about them. They really stand out, and work colleagues have repeatedly asked “oooh new glasses?”

Loving my new glasses!

Of course I then tell them all about the amazing Retropeepers service, which is genuinely fantastic. Having worn glasses/contacts for over 28 years, I have spent a small fortune on glasses in the past, only to throw them in a drawer as I didn’t really like them, or think they suited.

Channelling my inner Garcia

The company offers a range of options. You can have any of the glasses with clear lenses. This means you can wear them as an accessory. This pair of glasses starts at just £16.

They can also do the frames as “ready readers” You know, those glasses you can get in most places with strengths ranging from +1.00 to +3.00.

Or if you have a copy of your prescription, you can have them made just for your needs, including bifocals and varifocals.

This particular pair of glasses with a standard prescription lens starts at £46.

With extras like anti reflection/anti scratch/ultra clear the price would go to £72 which is still amazingly low!

Gorgeous Glasses

A lot of the frames even come as sunglasses, so there are a lot of choices here!

In fact, with such great prices, I think I will be ordering this frame in one or two of the other colours so I can mix and match them with my outfits.

Oh and probably the Peggy ones too! I am thinking of this pair…

I also have my eye on a couple of the other designs. After all they are such a bargain price, If I tried something new and wasn’t keen on how it looked on me, then I won’t have wasted hundreds of pounds doing so.

I can’t thank Caroline and her partner Lauretta for reaching out to me. They really has made me love wearing glasses all over again!

Till next time,

Txxx
