If you have been reading my recent posts you will know that I have a new found love for wearing glasses. What is so strange about that?
Well until recently I hated wearing them and wore contact lenses that you could wear solidly for 30 days. Eat, Sleep, Play – you name it I did it wearing my contacts.
This was due to the fact that I really hadn’t found any that had a retro enough feel to go with my ever evolving style. Then along came Retropeepers who introduced me to a whole new way of spectacle wearing.
Currently I have two pairs from them, The Betty and The Zsa-Zsa which you can read about here and here. Since receiving them over a month ago, I have only worn my contacts once (and that was to go swimming)
In short, I now love wearing glasses as long as they are the right kind for me!
Going back a month or so previously to this, I was in a local small town close to home with my very good friend, Jane. We had gone out for lunch at a dog friendly place so Theodore had come for the ride.
Jane and I then visited the most wonderful Vintage shop called Amy’s Vintage which bizarrely is above a Fishmongers! The lovely Amy and her colleague (sadly I didn’t get her name but she was AMAZING) were so welcoming and when they knew I was waiting outside with Theodore, with the plans for Jane and I to swap over once she had been and perused, they told me to bring him in!
We spent a good hour or two chatting away, looking at all the beautiful items Amy had to offer and of course the Pup got thoroughly spoilt.
It was almost time to leave when I spotted something….
The most lovely pair of original vintage spectacles. I immediately needed to know more about them.
Amy very kindly got them out for me and went on to show me the original case AND glasses cloth that came with the glasses. It looked like they had the prescription marked on the arm and I thought it was the same as my own prescription. Sadly as I was wearing my contact lenses, I wasn’t able to tell for sure.
Amy told me that they were £75. A Bargain really. But it wasn’t payday for another week so I knew it would make things a little tight. But I also knew that if I didn’t get them, the opportunity would be lost forever.
I bit the bullet and snapped them up!
Getting them home I couldn’t wait to get my contacts out and see what they were like. Sadly they weren’t quite right in the strength. Then I remembered the lovely Lolly of LollyLikesFATshion is the glasses queen and regularly has her glasses reglazed at a company called Specs By Post
Well it had to be worth a go. I duly went onto the website and had a look at what I needed to do. It was literally as simple as typing out my current prescription, sending my glasses to a specific address. Then it was a case of waiting.
I have to say, it wasn’t a very long wait! Four days later a package arrived and inside were my lovely glasses.
I had to put them on straight away.
They were, of course, absolutely perfect. The frames fitted my head perfectly and the arms were snug to my face, with the bent sections fitting around my ears like they had been made for me!
I absolutely loved the glasses and was so pleased I had made the plunge to get them. Even with the reglazing they were a bargain compared to what I would normally pay for a pair of glasses on the High Street.
Specs By Post charged just £25 for the reglazing with post&packaging at £3.99. For less than £30 they did a superb job. I would definitely recommend them to anyone and if I find any more little gems hidden in vintage shops, I know where I will be sending them!
What do you think to my new/old glasses? Are they your cup of tea?
Till next time
