Every time I seem to go onto Facebook it seems to taunt me with lots of products that it seems to know I would just love. Recently however, I have seen advert after advert for two particular companies; Gamiss and Rosegal.
The Rosegal advert featured a very lovely black fishtail dress with floral embroidery and I fell in lust. The price also looked just too good to be true. So what was the deal?
Of course I went onto the site and started having a look at all the products. Now this was a bit like an Aladdins Cave. They had everything from Clothing to Housewares to the most weird and wonderful items you have ever seen. There didn’t seem to be much rhyme or reason to what was on offer and it all seem extremely cheap.
Now, I have always been told if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck… it is a duck. And Rosegal was no exception to this rule. Was it simply just too good to be true?
I started looking at the reviews of it’s customers and this is where I hit a snag as they are very hit and miss.
There are probably more negative reviews of the site than positive, but on the positive ones, they are REALLY positive!
Most of the complaints talked about poor quality, slow delivery, items coming up small as they were made for the Chinese market etc etc. But that dress kept calling to me.
Well anyway, about 6 weeks ago I was watching a bit of Strictly Come Dancing on a Saturday night with a glass of fizz (or two). The more the fizz went down, the more I wanted to take the plunge.
So I went back onto the site, found the dress I lusted after and a couple of other things too. I put them all into my basket and checked the total. It came to $55.05 which I thought was pretty good, and then it started offering various discount codes off my basket. Well, I could hardly refuse.
In the end my total came to $39.84. That is the equivalent of £29.73 at today’s rates.
Well, what did I get for my money?
Four items in total. The dress I lusted after. A rainmac, a brooch and some squishy kittens. I DID tell you they have a wide variety of things!
Now for the wait….
To be honest, I didn’t expect much from the products but felt that £30 was worth a go. If they were awful, I would send them back. But I genuinely felt it was worth a try.
The account section of website is really good, if you bother to look into all the different parts of it. It gave me a really comprehensive list of where my packages were, when they were handed from courier to courier and they arrived on the day they said they would, albeit it in three separate deliveries (no extra cost though)
The first to arrive was the rainmac and squishy kittens. These left China on the 16th October and arrived on the 25th October. Nine days from the other side of the World. Now I think that is pretty good going.
The second package left the Far East on the 20th October and arrived on the 31st October. Again not too bad.
The third package is where it went a bit wrong. This was a little pea-pod brooch. Now I was away on holiday and didn’t log into my Rosegal account so didn’t see the email that told me it was out of stock. They offered me a refund or a change to another item. Of course, as I was away I didn’t see these notifications.
However, on the 5th November the brooch was dispatched! It had obviously come back in stock. It arrived with me on the 17th November.
I must make note that the coat and kittens advertised a 7-15 business day delivery, the dress 8-15 day delivery and the brooch 10 – 30 business day estimates. All of these had been met with ample time to spare.
As a lot of the reviews focused on how long it took to arrive, I had to wonder if the purchasers had looked at the delivery estimates as mine, so far were perfect.
Now for the clothes. How did they turn out? I ordered both in a 5XL hoping that they would just about fit me. Now for the truth…
The lightweight coat was a stunner. Now I know it is not everyone’s cup of tea. But I just loved it for it’s different style and was pleased when it arrived. It is made out of a lovely soft material in a white and black pattern with a vibrant pink sash belt. It fitted like a dream.
Then I found an issue. Whilst the coat has been made exceedingly well, the buttonholes had been stitched perfectly, but not cut open. Well, all that took was a sharp pair of scissors and voila! Coat done.
With the discount off, this coat worked out out around $18!! Bargain. I’ve also worn it out loads, and whilst it won’t keep you warm in the winter winds, it is great as an evening coat when going to a function.
The squishy kitties are a tiny little stress toy which is a silly little thing, but made me chuckle. I took one into work and everyone was obsessed with wiggling it’s little tummy. So for a couple of dollars they were a great investment (especially as you got three in the pack)
My next delivery was the dress I had lusted after.
Was I going to be disappointed?
Hell no! The 5XL is made from a stretchy material (polyester/spandex mix) and fitted like a dream. It has a higher cut front skirt section with the back being longer. I am not the tallest of people, so it is rather long at the back but that is one of the things I loved about it.
The embroidery was beautifully done. Pink and red flowers that are positioned in a way that they flatter the figure and give the illusion of your waist being smaller than it is.
I took this dress with me on a recent holiday to Centreparcs and wore it one evening when we went out for a meal. It was flattering, comfortable and I felt very glamorous in it. I know I will wear it again and again!
I have had so many compliments about this dress, and again with the discount it worked out around $15. You don’t usually get much for that kind of price, and this is definitely a dress that should cost a lot more than that.
My last item, the peapod brooch. Not much to say on this one to be honest. And that is not a bad thing!
It is identical to the picture, really well made, a little bit of whimsy for around $3.00, it really doesn’t break the bank. I love this little guy and will be wearing it frequently as it is a bit of a talking point.
For me, Rosegal came through on all counts. The price was great, the quality was better than I expected and the items arrived well within their advertised times. This is not to say that with any future orders I might get my fingers burnt. However, for the cost, for me it was worth a punt. I am really glad I did.
So, My verdict on Rosegal? Pretty Bloomin’ Good!!
Have you bought from Gamiss or Rosegal before? How was your experience?
Till next time
