Goodness Gracious Gatsby!

Whilst visiting Londonedge back in September (read my blog post here) I was really pleased to go and see the GatsbyLady stall in attendance.

I was aware of the company as a few blogger friends had worn their gorgeous items and I was keen to see for myself just what the dresses were like.

We were greeted by the lovely Roj and had a bit of a chat about the beautiful handmade creations, all designed with a bygone flair. Imagine flapper style fabulous and you are about there.

During our chat, a potential collaboration was suggested and so once the dust had settled after the exhibition, I popped an email to them asking if they were interested in the suggested collaboration.

I duly got a lovely email back from Roj asking me to have a look and see if there was anything that took my fancy and I would like to try.

Now this is where it became very difficult. There literally were so many pretty dresses; I didn’t know where to start!

Long, short, midi; you name it, they have it all. And pretty much every colour option too.

I took the decision to look at it logically.

I went into the size guide first, and checked out what size I would need to have. I was actually in between size 26 and 28, so I opted for 28 knowing the flapper style is quite loose and not clingy.

This narrowed down some of the choices and left me with just dresses in that size. Then I looked at the design.

Whilst for some this would not be important, things like super skinny straps just won’t work with my thick bra straps, very low cut backs would show off my bra ruining the line and look of the dress, so I counted those out too.

This still left me with a good 50+ dresses to choose from! So I continued to narrow them down. Nothing too short, nothing too long (as I am only 5ft4) it would drown me. Finally after looking at the dresses repeatedly, I had narrowed it down to my three favourites.

Why three though? Well, whilst I was able to choose what I wanted, I always like to give three or four options to the company. This is just in case of low stock or a specific dress they would rather have promoted.

I duly sent my email off to Roj listing the three I liked the most which were these –

The Scarlet

I eagerly awaited the arrival of the parcel; after all I didn’t even know which one would be arriving!

A few days later a package arrived on my doorstep and I opened it eagerly. Inside were the absolutely stunning Molly dress and a complimentary Eliza headband in Gold.

Now this dress is made up of mostly gold and plum toned beads. And it glistens! It has a heavy weight to it and is so beautifully made that I was really excited to try it on and as I now  have quite a 20’s style haircut, I thought it would look perfect.

I couldn’t wait to try it on, even though I had no make up on and the photograph wasn’t the best I had ever done. I was just so impatient! I lifted the gorgeous dress over my head and it slipped down my body. It was a perfect fit, in fact I could have possibly gone for a size 26 as it was pretty generous, but as previously said the flapper style dresses are not meant to cling to the body so I was more than thrilled with the fit.

The Molly

The Molly was actually my favourite dress out of the three I had sent to Roj for the simple reason that the bottom section was unique. I couldn’t find any other dress on the website that had the segmented strips of beaded material. Most of the dresses had layers of fringing or strings of beads, whereas the Molly has the sections which reminded me a little of ancient roman soldiers “skirts”.

Christmas with GatsbyLady

It really was an unusual feature and I thought it was simply beautiful.

So, how did I get on with the dress? It couldn’t have gone any better than it did. It fit perfectly, It looked amazing on and I felt like a 1920’s socialite whilst wearing it.

Pose!

The back is equally as beautiful as the front on this dress. The beading is just sublime and the design is understated yet perfect.

Just perfect!

The matching headband had a silky ribbon to tie around your head to the desired tightness and this just finished the look off! What I really want is for someone to do a smokey eyeshadow and dark plum lips for me, and I think my look would be complete.

Having fun with the camera

I would love to do that myself, however when I try and do a smokey eye I just look like I have been punched in the face; not a good look at all!

There may have been a bit of Christmas alcohol involved…..

This dress is a knockout dress and I feel it really needs a special event to really show it off. A ball, or a visit to a 20’s style nightclub would be the perfect opportunity to wear it and I think I need to get my planning head on and make this happen.

Caught me on the hop….

For now, I am going to hang it up carefully and put it on whenever I need a pick-me-up as this dress cannot fail to raise a huge grin on my face.

It literally is THAT special.

Now, ideas please for somewhere special to show this beauty off? New Years Eve, Anyone???

Till next time,

Txxx
