A couple of weeks ago I headed to The Festival of Vintage at York.

Whilst I was there, I popped to see Alice Browns Cupboard, otherwise known as Anna and her lovely assistant, Mel.

Vintage Ladies

I had gone to see if she had any thin bangles as I had purchased some from her at Twinwood last August and wanted to get some other colours if possible.

As we were having a good old natter, I spotted some new items on her stall. Hair flowers!

Floral Fantastic

Now, in the vintage world hair flowers are a staple. People accessorise their outfits and hats with beautiful blooms and quite often matching corsages for the lapel or even at the waistline.

I personally have a collection of over 40 floral fancies and am always in the market for something new and different and this is what I found on Alice’s/Annas stall.

My first purchase was a stunning cream/palest pink large Peony type flower which had a matching corsage. This just called out to me and I could think of several outfits that this would look absolutely perfect with.

Perfect Peonies

Accessorised with lime coloured flowers, the matching set is both a showstopper but also suitable to wear on a simple garment. The neutral colours make it easy to match with most things, whilst not being too obtrusive.

Pretty as a Peony

The second set I purchased was a real stand out set. Dark red Dahlias are accessorised with Lilies of the same colour. To give a little contrast, there are some off white small sprigs of flowers.

Delightful Dahlias

The hair flower is made up of a single Dahlia and Lily and the Corsage is two large Dahlias surrounded by Lilies and the same smaller sprigs of Chrysanthemum type flowers.

I love red and this darker shade is perfect for my brown hair. It really stands out without being ‘in your face’ and I can think of several outfits that this will suit beautifully.

Darling!

My final choice was a little more simple; a peachy/pink double flower that whilst I cannot identify the exact flower, it looks to me like a cross between an azalea and a rose!

I am sure there are lots of people out there that can tell me exactly what it is, but all I knew was that it pretty and very vintage in style.

Azaleas?

The matching sets range in price and are very reasonable. The largest set here cost £25 which if I am honest, is a bit of a bargain. I have paid upwards of £50 for similar sets both online and at vintage events.

I am absolutely thrilled with all of my purchases and cannot wait to wear them to my next event!
