Rocking my World Part 2

Not long before the festive season we had to go to Cambridge for a hospital appointment for the hubby. We had plenty of time to spare so we popped along to a restaurant for a spot of lunch.

Rockers was our choice and what a great choice it was! If you missed it, you can read it here

We had enjoyed a fantastic meal and on paying the bill we got chatting to George who told us he was part owner and it was a single restaurant so far. Although this was great, I was a bit gutted there was  not one closer to home.

We promised George we would return, and so we did on the 3rd January for a pre-op assessment again at Addenbrookes.

We went for the appointment first so we didn’t have to rush eating, and arrived at Rockers around 3:30pm. There were three of four tables being served, but we were quickly sat down at a table for two. Sadly George wasn’t it, but we were very warmly welcomed.

Decisions, Decisions…..

In the previous post I had stated I wanted to try one of the other burgers this time, however I couldn’t choose and so went straight for the Juicy Lucy melt, and added some extra halloumi on the top. The other half went for the Barbacoa burger again, but doubled up on his patty.

My burger was hiding under the epic halloumi!

We added some onion rings, sauteed garlic mushrooms and home-made coleslaw.

All home made

We sat chatting about the appointment and up-coming operation and around 10 minutes later our food arrived. And what a feast!

Couldn’t wait for me to take the picture before he dived in!

You know sometimes when you go somewhere and have an amazing meal/time and you revisit it and its not as good as you thought or remembered?

Well in Rockers case, it was even better than the first time!

No cocktails again… Driving home.

The burger was seasoned to perfection, with a bite from the pepper. It was juicy and the cheddar inside oozed across the plate. The salad was crisp and fresh (hate cucumber though) and the onion rings, hot and delicious. I was particularly impressed with the mushrooms; proper mushrooms sliced and cooked in garlic and butter, unlike some that you get in burger/diner places.

Too much choice!

I had ordered fries before remembering that I shouldn’t be eating them, so I had maybe half a dozen just to check them out. They were fantastic too.

I managed to finish all my burger, but couldn’t manage all the salad and coleslaw. The hubby polished off the last few onion rings and had a few of my fries too.

More memorabilia

Looking at the clock it was almost 5pm and I thought trying to get out of Cambridge and onto the A14 would be a bit of a bloody nightmare.

We opted to chill out for a bit, letting our dinner go down a bit before possibly having a dessert.

So much to see

Around 40 minutes later (in which we chatted, booked a hotel for the operation date and had a look at all the memorabilia) we were ready to share a dessert.

Not very carb friendly, a waffle was exactly what we wanted. A warm waffle sprinkled with cinnamon, topped with maple syrup, whipped cream, chocolate ice-cream, chocolate sauce and mini marshmallows.

Waffletastic

Now anyone that knows me, knows I can’t do anything chocolate other than a bit of Cadburys now and then. Mousse, ice-cream, gateaux, pudding, muffins etc make me literally heave. The smell alone sets me off.

But I really wanted the waffle and asked if it could be done without the chocolate ice cream and sauce. They were more than happy to substitute the ice cream with vanilla and leave off the sauce. Bonus!

Guitars Galore

Dessert arrived and it was epic. Just the right amount of cinnamon and a great quality ice-cream too. Hubby dove in, realised that his taste-buds were still not enjoying sweet things (something that started over Christmas) and declined any more. Well, I couldn’t leave it, could I?

I polished off the lot and I can honestly say I enjoyed every mouthful.

Done!

As we had missed rush hour, we asked for the bill and some paper so I could leave a note for George. The bill with drinks and service charge came to £60 which was extremely reasonable considering we had ordered extra patty’s, halloumi and sides.

It was now time for me to drive home and it was a struggle if I am honest. I just wanted to have a nap after all that amazing food.

A perfect place to hang out

We arrived home around 80 minutes later and honestly had a brilliant time.

Although hubby is going for his operation in around 2 weeks, we plan on going back to Rockers the evening before so we can have a jolly good meal before he becomes Nil By Mouth.

Thanks again to all the lovely staff at Rockers who really were so friendly and welcoming. Neither one of us can wait to come back again in a few weeks.

Until then,

SPSG xx
