A new way of buying dresses

A month ago I had a lovely email from a lady called Leona who was making contact to see if I would like to review some of their vintage style dresses. She had been following me on Instagram and liked my style and thought we could work well together.

Well of course, this got me very excited and I hurried along to the website to see what they had to offer.

The company was called Zapaka and I absolutely loved the dresses that they had on their website. They were gorgeous and right up my street.

There was just one problem.

They didn’t seem to make my size at all.

I wrote back to Leona thanking her for the opportunity but due to my size, I wouldn’t be able to work with her on the project. It was such a shame as I loved what they had to offer, but thought ‘That’s Life’.

Imagine my surprise when she replied advising that there was nothing to worry about as they offered a made to measure service. I just needed to give her my measurements!

Well, that changed the whole playing field and I went back to the site to see what I liked the most.

I was even more surprised when Leona asked me to choose three dresses for them to make!

This is where I struggled a little as there were so many beautiful things to choose from. In order to make it slightly easier, I enlisted the help of my blog wifey, Boo of Does my blog make me look fat.  She was able to come up with the pros and cons which enabled me to make my final three decisions.

My first choice?

A Burgundy V-neck 1950’s vintage party dress.

I went with this option as it is a classic style dress; double-breasted with complementing buttons. The skirt is full enough to wear with a petticoat underneath and I thought Burgundy was the perfect winter colour to go with.

One of the hardest choices was actually the colour to choose as this dress comes in six different colours; maroon, black, red, navy, green and royal blue.

My intention is to dress it up with Christmas accents; my nutcracker hair accessory and glittery Irregular Choice shoes.

Or I might just go with original vintage sparkling jewellery as I have the perfect brooch and earrings to wear with it!

Choice number two was a lot easier. As soon as I saw the combination of green material and tartan accents, I was smitten.

So, what was it?

The Green plaid swing vintage dress.

I adore the off-center bow design and the pleat of tartan in the front of the skirt. Although it is a dark green, I feel that I could wear it during all the seasons, it is just such a classic design.

Again it will be perfect during the festive season.

I have been looking on vintage sites for a little tartan handbag to go with it. I have also spotted some Welsh tartan capes which could match it a treat!

My final choice was perhaps my absolute favourite. A dark green velvet dress.

Classy in design yet very simple, I loved the shape and the length seemed perfect too. I knew I had to have it and could already see how I would style it.

I love the fact that it has quite wide straps. This should hopefully cover up my bra straps and I won’t need to wear my corset, which I usually do with this style of dress.

Velvet Evening Gown

I emailed Leona and asked for the three choices I had made.  I gave her my bust/waist/hip measurements and she advised that it would take around three weeks to make the dresses for me and ship out. Leona then emailed back asking for my natural height so they could get the length right for me. I then had a moment of inspiration.

I asked if they could make the green velvet dress full length so it became a proper velvet evening gown.

Ideal for my whole aesthetic; White fur stole, diamante jewellery and a stunning crystal hair accessory.

Perfect for a festive night out, somewhere elegant.

To say I am excited to receive my dresses is an understatement. I am really looking forward to putting all of the outfits together and showing the end results off to you.

Until then,
