Steak and Mocktails

The 14th of August saw me having the pleasure of visiting a relatively new restaurant close to where I live.

Moosteak had been highly reviewed and I was keen to give it a try for myself as it was billed as a restaurant that specialised in Steak and Lobster.

Now as I love both, I popped onto the website to put in a request for a table at around 8pm. Getting a call on my mobile a couple of hours later, I was advised that they were very busy but could accommodate a table of two at 830pm, if that was suitable.

So, it was with some eagerness that I threw on a new dress, a bit of sparkly eyeshadow and headed on over to the restaurant to try out the fare on offer.

Add dressed up

On arrival I could see that it was quite a small, bijou space with enough seats for around 30 people. Brightly lit with glittering gold wallpaper, we were taken to our table very quickly and offered the menu and a drinks menu.

One of the things about Moosteak is that it is a ‘dry’ restaurant which means that all the drinks on offer are non-alcoholic. They do allow customers to ‘BYOB’ (bring your own booze) however I opted for one of their mocktails which was orange, peach and red fruit juices – The Dreamline X Rated.

You can imagine my surprise when the waitress carried over a lovely Martini glass and a strange looking contraption.

She placed the glass on the table and used the contraption to blow a large bubble on top of the glass. She then instructed me to drop a flower onto the bubble, which burst sending a scented smoke wafting into the air.

Decisions, Decisions

Great start, right?

For the first course I chose the Mixed Starter which consisted of chicken, lamb chops, ribs and wings served with a fresh sea salad and Moosteak signature sauce.

Sublime Starters

The dish was absolutely wonderful. The meat was succulent and melt in the mouth, yet fiery and fresh. The Moosteak signature sauce had a kick but was very moreish. I enjoyed every morsel and think the only thing that could have improved the dish was a nice chunk of fresh bread to mop up all the meat juices and more of that signature sauce.

For my main course I was torn between the Filet Mignon and the rib-eye Steak. Both were 8oz in size, so that didn’t help my decision either.

Whilst waiting for the starter to arrive, I decided to watch what was being brought out to the diners. The Filet looked absolutely magnificent and ultimately that was what I chose.

Fantastic Filet

All of the steaks come from Aberdeen Angus cattle and are dry aged for 28 days. Served with a garlic and herb butter, they are accompanied by steak cut chips, seasonal vegetables and a choice of sauce.

I initially asked for Bearnaise however they were sadly out of that, so I went with Peppercorn instead.

It wasn’t too long before our meal started to arrive.

Firstly the chips, then the vegetables and sauce and then the piece de resistance; The Filet Mignon.

I have to admit it looked absolutely delicious. Around 3 inches thick, I had asked for mine to be cooked rare. Now as they say, the proof is in the eating and I was very eager to do so.

Cutting into the steak, I held my breath to see if it would be cooked the way I like…

Perfection

It was absolutely perfect!

Rare, but not bloody. It was butter soft and didn’t really need a steak knife to cut through it. The chips were fluffy inside whilst being crispy on the outside.

The vegetables consisted of asparagus, green beans and vine tomatoes and was crisp and fresh. The peppercorn sauce was perfect; tasty with a little kick, fragrant and flavoursome.

The Perfect Meal

It was a perfect accompaniment to the best steak I think I have ever had. And I don’t say those words lightly!

I have had many steaks in my time, in many Countries around the World, but this one was something else.

I literally cannot find a fault with anything that I ordered, it was all absolutely delicious and if I could have done, I would have eaten it all again.

Of course, I needed something else to wash my meal down so I ordered a second mocktail, this time a Dreamline Blackberry. Again it came with the same pomp and ceremony but was a sparkling, glittery blue colour.

I had really enjoyed my first mocktail, but this one was even better. It complimented the meal beautifully and I was very happy with my choice.

Dreamliner Blackberry

By this point I was feeling pretty full. I didn’t know what the dessert menu looked like, but I wasn’t sure I could manage anything. I have to admit to very nearly caving in when I saw a beautiful portion of cake/cheesecake being delivered to the table next to mine which was served with candy floss and berries.

It was a very close run thing, but eventually sensibility won and I decided against dessert. Whilst it did look exceedingly good, I do think it was the best decision as I would invariably have eaten more than I should and have been left uncomfortable and overfull.

I asked for the bill and was even more surprised by the total. For the sharing starter, two Filet Mignons, two mocktails and a glass of non-alcoholic wine, it was just over £80.

Not only was it amazing quality, it was at a pretty decent price too.

The restaurant has only been open for six months but I can see a very bright future ahead given the wonderful food they are serving.

I can certainly say that I will be returning pretty soon, after all, why have substandard steak when you can go to Moosteak and have the real deal.

I highly recommend giving them a try, I doubt you will be disappointed.

Till next time,
