Perfect Pyjamas

Firstly I must apologise for the slightly misleading title. I am talking Beach Pyjamas and not the ones you wear in bed!

Beach Pyjamas? What the hell? And why would you wear pyjamas to the beach?

Well, back in the day it was the in-style for the fashionistas on the 1920s beaches. Originally designed by Coco Chanel in 1922, it took a little while for the trend to become mainstream but by the 1930’s they were seen on every beach and boardwalk.

I have been a fan of the beach pyjama for quite a long while, however the same thing is always a problem; you just can’t get them in a large enough size.

Story of my life.

Then just before my trip to Athens, I popped onto the Ambrose Wilson website. I wasn’t looking for anything like beach pyjamas, just some big girl pants and a wrap around towel and then I saw this set.

The Joanna Hope Beachwear Set.  It was pretty much perfect.

Lightweight beach trousers with a matching turban. Pairing it with a strappy vest top or my swimsuit w0uld be really rather cool!

Even better was the fact that it was down from £40 to the bargain price of £16. Well, I could hardly resist.

I popped it into my basket with a couple of other items and ordered it next day delivery so that it would be here for when I went on my jolly holiday.

The parcel arrived next day and I was really pleased with all the purchases. I was even more thrilled when I opened the packet containing the beachwear set. Lightweight yet not sheer, the trousers had an elasticated back section, and were a lovely vintage wide leg.

Featuring a chain and animal print design, the print reminded me of a dress I reviewed in November 2018 from Pink Clove; not quite the same but very much of the same ilk.

Anyway, Boo and I flew to Athens where it was going to be around 19 degrees. Perfect to try out the beachwear.

I was planning on pairing the trousers with a swimsuit I was gifted last year from J D Williams, however the weather had other ideas. Whilst it was hot and sunny, the pool was unheated and quite shaded. To be frank I probably would have got frostbite had I tried to lounge around in them!

However, I could certainly imagine walking down the promenade with a big sunhat, dark glasses and a dalmatian on a leash, like back in the day.

Obviously I have Theodore and he loves to get in on the photographs, however a hot sunny beach and a floofball really aren’t a very good combination.

Anyway, the pyjama set was a big hit with me. I ordered a size 26 and if I am honest, the trousers are a little on the snug size, mainly due to the material having no stretch or give.

If I was to order again, I would definitely size up for a roomier fit. Either that or I need to lose a couple of pounds to make them a more comfortable fit.

The length is perfect. Slightly higher than ankles and very wide. This means they give a really swooshy movement when walking.

The turban is a pretty good fit and looks smashing when I leave my natural curls hanging out the bottom.

All in all, this was a great purchase. If I had time, I would have sent it back and sized up. I just need a holiday now and to lose a pound or two.

Saying that…. I think my next holiday is a wintery Christmas one so maybe not!

Until next time,

SPSG xx
